Taroudant is commonly known as the Mini Marrakech and holds a significant historical significance behind its fortified walls. Located roughly 90 kilometers from Agadir, it serves as a prime spot for understanding ancient Morocco. It had a brief stint as the capital during the Saadian period.
Just beyond its beige strengthened enclosure lies a small-scale leather tannery. Taroudant is famed for its markets and hand-made goods. Hop between the Arab souk and the Berber souk, where one can purchase traditional items such as rugs, trinkets, spices, metal products, pottery, and attire.
The Tioute oasis, sitting atop a 16th-century strongpoint from the Saadian period, commands a view over the seven douars or districts, enclosed by a beautifully trimmed palm grove.
