Paestum is a historical city from the era of Magna Graecia. Initially named Poseidonia by its founders, it was later referred to as Paestum by the Romans to honor Poseidon, yet showed significant dedication towards Athena and Hera.
The guided journey involves visiting three grand temples. The first one, the temple of Hera, also known as the Basilica, is the most ancient, built in the Doric style and boasting significant size. Following this, we’ll explore the temple of Poseidon, or Neptune, which bears comparison to the temple of Zeus in Olympia. It stands as a glorious Doric-style wonder constructed in 460 BC, complete with double-order columns that will leave you in awe.
Our exploration will proceed with the third temple, the temple of Ceres. A walk along the Via Sacra presents an opportunity to witness the Roman Forum and the Amphitheater.
After visiting the ruins of Paestum, the tour will culminate at the National Archaeological Museum.
