Was a great experience but the sunrise was missed due to fog.
Im a guy that rides couple thousand miles every year. Overall much better experense than the ride we did 2 years ago with an other tour company. The one comment I would have is bike was in poor condition, tyers were way under inflated. Not sure if this was your plan or not. The plus i can give is your guides were really good. Much more informative
Some of the folks you run into on the sunrise can be rude and sure don't listen to guidance, i.e. stay on the walkways....share the railing so everyone can get a picture. The folks that ran the trip were very nice and take heed of the bike brakes, bounced me around some.
Fun adventure. We weren't able to see the sunrise due to weather, but the bike ride was fun. I left my jacket on the bus, but the tour guide said he wasn't able to find it which was a real bummer. So a couple of things could have gone better, but neither of them were really the tours fault. The cant make the sun rise and they cant keep me from forgetting my jacket.
We arrived too early in the morning. An extra 45 min of sleep would have helped. Install heaters
Two things kept me from saying “completely satisfied” 1. Not enough coffee was available upon arrival. Two pots is not enough for all the people you book. Our party of six was not able to get even one cup. 2. My daughter’s bike got a flat tire and the chain fell off. It took one hour for a replacement bike to arrive.
It would be helpful to know snacks would not be provided and the earliest access would not be until after 9am. It would also be helpful to know about the winding roads were on the drive up. Several people on the shuttle were car sick and there we no vomit bags on the bus. All other things about the trip were pleasant and as described. The staff was very friendly and helpful.
Left way too early -- ended up sitting in the parking lot at the summit for 1-1/2 hours before sunrise.
The tour was great 5 stars! driver awesome, tour guide awesome (Paul) sun rise awesome!!! HOWEVER the bike i was issued for the ride down was a piece of shit It was not the size I requested or was fitted for at the time of check in. Not only was it To Small It was an older bike (That should not have been issued) the derailer sucked and didn't shift properly I am surprised the chain didn't break when having to peddle uphill. We did not have time to call and have another bike brought up so made do with what I had. Ultimately this coast the driver and Paul their tip . Good thing I know how to ride and this wasn't the first POS bike i have ridden.
Entire trip was great! Only improvements we suggest are: better timing on pick up (we could’ve had an hour more sleep) / gloves (to double as riding gloves and cold weather for mtn) / and the bikes need a 2nd front sprocket (larger) for more flexibility in gear selection.
The staff was very knowledgeable and the bikes were well selected for the activity (thank you, big front shock absorber on the short bumpy part). The hydraulic hand breaks were very easy on my hand arthritis, which was a nice surprise! I found that leaning downhill though, was an issue with my mild carpal tunnel syndrome, so I ended up stopping a couple times briefly to let the feeling come back. In the meantime, the views were great. That's with the exception of the zero-visibility rain on the very top of Haleakala, but I suppose it would have been that way most days that week. I would do this ride again!
The arrival time of 3am was far too early. We could gave arrived at 5 am and acomplished the same thing
Pick a show time and leave. We waited over 1 hour
Paul was a great tour guide and driver. Was a bit disappointed we didn't get to see the sunrise due to weather, but Paul did what he could to make up for it which of great.
This was a great tour however we wished it was pushed back 1 hour so we didn't have to spend 1 hour in the bus as we waited for the sun to rise.
The crater at sunrise was amazing....actually the 45 minutes before sunrise was the best. It was a beautiful clear night so viewing the stars and the best part was how the sky changes colours just before the sun rises. The bikes were great and the staff were very organized and knowledgeable and they gave good instructions. The also had lots of extra clothing if you needed to keep warm and the map and directions for returning on the bikes was clear and easy. For areas of improvement, I would have liked to spend more time at the crater after sunrise....it seemed like we were rushed to get down and on our way. Also more suggestions on places to visit and stop on the way down.
Everything was really great! The only thing we didn't like was that we signed up for shuttle service to and from hotel. There was a group late getting back to bike shop and we had to wait for them which put us behind schedule the rest of the day and we were an hour later getting back to resort. Next time we would drive ourselves to give more flexibility.
The tour was good and the info that was provided was good. The weather was bad at the top so we didn't see the sunrise but that is not there fault. What I don't understand is why you needed to be there so early. We got to the pick spot at 3 AM and ended up waiting up top in the parking lot for well over an hour and half. There was no need for that as far as I can see.
The sunrise and bike tour were both amazing. Jackie and Eddie did a great job as guides. The one thing i would change is start it a hour later. When we got to the top it was 520 and the sun didn’t rise till 7. The majority of the people just slept in the van. Waking up that early was rough, well worth it but rough, so an extra hour of sleep would have been great. Mahalo.
Biking was really fun & the bikes were in great shape. I just think you could have given more information on the website about what to expect. We were there early just to be safe and then ended up waiting around for a really long time for all the other people to get checked in. There was also a long wait at the volcano summit which we weren’t expecting. Overall it was great, just think you could do a better job preparing people for what to expect. Thanks!
