Great experience, great atmosphere, great food, great fun
Chef Daren is awesome!! He is very knowledgeable and a great chef. His class was so enjoyable. The low country menu was great and definitely things I can cook at home. Thanks for a great experience!!
I visited Savannah together with eight girlfriends for a long weekend getaway. We planned the trip for about a year, and packed our schedule with dinner reservations, tours and taking in as much of Savannah as we could. By far, this evening was the highlight of our trip. I researched the cooking school options and booked Chef Darin after reading his reviews and because he was so accommodating and responsive. He even changed the menu to feature his most quintessentially southern menu for our west coast group - Low Country Shrimp and Grits. The evening did not disappoint. Chef Darin's facilities are top notch, well thought out and comfortable for easy viewing of the preparation. Even the bathrooms are interesting -- wall papered with pages from southern recipe books and pie tins. He also has a well-stocked kitchen supply store with many of the items you use in the class for purchase. We anticipated the food would be great and it was -- one of our favorite meals from a weekend filled with some of the best restaurants in Savannah. What we did not anticipate was all that we learned, including great practical tips for use in everyday cooking, and in such an enjoyable fashion. It was a perfect mix of entertainment, demonstration and hands on cooking. Chef Darin was approachable, welcoming and highly entertaining. He started the evening by explaining his process, the history of the food and what we were about to do. He then got several menu items going by selecting between 1 to 4 guests to work on certain aspects of the menu. Next, we convened to the group cooking stations to finish everything and bring it together for a truly great meal; we brought our own wines planning to pay the corkage fees, but instead bought the wines Chef had for purchase, we had the cab, which was great. We all really appreciated that Chef provided us all with detailed recipes and tips from the evening, which saved us from having to furiously take notes during the class. My only regret is that I won't be able to take his other classes because I live 3,000 miles away. What a great evening -- thank you, Chef Darin!
Chef Darin provided a wonderful experience. The kitchen and storefront are beautiful. Chef Darin not only teaches how to cook a wonderful meal, but shares wonderful techniques i wish had learned years ago. He brought humor and involved everyone in the class. The food was wonderful and this was definitely a highlight on our trip to Savanna!
Our Low Country Cuisine class was excellent. Chef Darin gave us the historic background on the cuisine as well as explanations of why the techniques we used worked. The selection of dishes was perfect-all were delicious, complimented each other and used different methods. There was ample opportunity to ask questions in a relaxed comfortable setting. We greatly enjoyed this informative entertaining and delicious evening.

As a novice, this experience taught me basic skills, chemical involvement, and differences in pans, oils, flours, timing. A thorough handout afterwards has reinforced this. And, most importantly, the food we prepared, cooked and then got to eat was absolutely delicious. It was the highlight of my trip to Savannah!
We went with several couples and loved the hands on experience. Everyone had a chance to prepare part of the dinner. Chef Darin has a great sense of humor! Chef Darin also gave us many cooking tips and answered our many questions. Even if some were not cooks; we all had a memorable time. My husband and I hope to go again soon.
We had a great time. Chef Darin is extremely knowledgeable, professional and personable. We learned a variety of great techniques, both for cooking and prepping food. It was great to receive a bit of history about some of the food we prepared. We thoroughly enjoyed the "hands on" lesson. The meal was ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS!!!! The best grits and biscuits we've ever eaten. Let's just say...It was ALL scrumptious! There's no question - we will return for another "hands on" experience. Oh yeah! We had a ball shopping at Chef Darin's retail store. When in Savannah, take time for a real cooking experience at Chef Darin's Kitchen Table!
Chef Darin was not only personal, funny, and highly professiona but he taught us so much.
Wonderful knowledge of history of ingredients and knowledge of cooking skills plenty of time to prepare each dish
It was a great way to spend a few hours - learning to cook some Southern classics and even better, getting to enjoy the end product!
I chose this rating because the evening was entertaining, full of wonderful cooking tips and a great learning experience. I'm from the North and learned about grits and shrimp. It's a cuisine I am very unfamiliar with and found it fascinating. Chef Darin was positive, fun, and made the evening fly by. We were divided into small groups and allowed to make many parts of the meal including salad, grits, and the shrimp sauce. I wish I lived in Savannah so that I could take more classes from Chef Darin. At the end of class we had a fantastic shared meal at a long table. It was fun interacting with other people interested in cooking. I wouldn't miss the chance to take a class from Chef Darin.
