Highlights
  • Zenko-ji Temple - As one of the oldest, largest, and most important Buddhist temples in Japan, Zenko-ji is the spiritual heart of Nagano. A registered National Treasure, the temple’s near-1400 year history is full of legend and myth which your guide will help you unlock as they guide you around the temple precinct followed by time to explore for yourself (time-permitting).
  • MONZEN TERRACE ENYA - Nagano is Japan’s second largest producer of ‘sake’, meaning no trip to the region is complete without sampling some of the local breweries. Your guide will introduce to the complex and warm world of sake with a guided tasting and while there also treat you to a delicious lunch at one of Nagano’s favorite restaurants.
  • Jigokudani Snow Monkey Park - Established in 1964, Nagano’s world-famous Jigokudani Snow Monkey Park is home to the only troop of monkeys in the world known to bathe in hot springs. With no barriers between you and the monkeys (don’t worry, they are very calm) this is a unique opportunity to observe these curious creatures in close proximity as the walk about you, wrestle with each other, endlessly groom, and of course, soak in their favourite hot spring! Your guide will introduce you to everything that makes them so unique and famous while giving you plenty of time to explore for yourself.

Please note that estimated time at the monkey park includes walking in and out along the forest trail - 1.6km each way / 25 minutes each way in summer, slightly longer in winter. We endeavour to give our guests 1 hour in the park to observe the monkeys.

  • During the winter it is common to see the monkeys enjoying the hot spring however from spring up to autumn there will be times where the monkeys play or eat in the water, however please note that the monkeys are wild animals and there is no guarantee that there will be monkeys in the bath.
  • There are a few days in the year that the monkeys might not come down to the park, arrive late or leave early. While this is unlikely, it is possible and is outside of our control.

Fantastic Day Trip - Fantastic day trip with a lovely guide (Joyce) and an excellent bus driver. The snow monkeys at the Snow Monkey Resort were an absolute highlight but the visit to the temple and the sake tasting were also very good.

Just WOW! - This was perhaps my favourite tour so far. The entire day was filled with fun and interesting things from start to finish. Our guide Joyce was a complete rockstar- her knowledge and kindness really set the bar and she was extremely helpful. At the temple, I highly recommend purchasing a ticket to go walk underneath in the darkness- its such a cool experience, I loved it! The sake tasting was excellent, and we even had miso there! We were given plenty of time to shop- which was perfect for gift buying. The lunch is incredible- so unique and I felt like I was dining in a five star restaurant. To top this all off a breathtaking walk through the mountains and a couple of hours hanging out with the Snow Monkeys which were adorable! We went in Spring, so they were not bathing but lots of newborns and little babies everywhere, which was so exciting. It is a literal paradise! This tour was worth every penny!

More than Snow Monkeys - Very well organised tour which was full of fun and interesting places to see. The snow monkeys are without a doubt a highlight as we were fortunate enough to see loads of babies. The sake tasting was fun and the temple visit was informative and fascinating. Kei was an excellent guide and very helpful in providing advice over restaurants and different places to go in the region. Great service from the team that sits behind the guides too with excellent follow up. A cracking day out. Thank you.

Great day experience while in Nagano - Great tour! Loved visiting the shrine, wished we got to stay a bit longer, half an hour did not feel like enough time, especially since it was such a massive temple. The sake tasting was excellent, loved the variety and explanation of each we got. Finally, the reason to book this trip, the snow monkey park was better than we'd hoped for! They were everywhere and amazing to see, just mind the smell, it's quite bad in the park.
