Great combined tour to Cu Chi tunnels and mekong delta - Yesterday I took the full day tour from Saigon to Cu Chi tunnels and Mekong Delta (2 of the four little islands around My Tho) with tour guide Vinh. It was an excellent tour, around 12 hours in total with about 5 of them spent driving in the bus. I was very moved even before we got to Cu Chi by the rest stop where we saw some handcrafts made by the generations who are still affected by the use of the chemical agent orange during the war. Cu Chi is an amazing site for gaining an understanding of the hardships endured by people during (and after) the Vietnam war and also their ingenuity in misleading the enemy and fighting for survival. It is a busy site with a lot of tour groups but Vinh gave a good explanation aboard the bus before arrival and kept our group together, giving short explanations at each display. The tunnel itself is just a 10 minute experience at the end of a 90 minute visit. I appreciated this since I chose not to go into the tunnel but still found lots of value in the visit to the site. Vinh even got me some ear protection when we stopped at the cafe adjacent to the firing range when he noticed my discomfort — so thoughtful. After a 2 hour drive to My Tho we had the rest of the day’s activities (lunch on Phoenix Island and a visit to a bee farm, coconut candy and snake wine making factory, python house, traditional music stop and experience of a coconut grove by rowing boat). It was 2.45 by the time we had lunch so the cake offered aboard the bus after leaving Cu Chi was a good means of keeping our energy up. The tour was also very thoughtful about our washroom needs, telling us where to take advantage of facilities since there were no rest stops on the road between Cu Chi and My Tho, and My Tho and Saigon. The lunch was good (not great) but as we kept being offered additional edibles (honey tea, coconut candy, fruit plate, fresh coconut) there was no chance to feel hungry. Vinh explained the economic hardship in this area, the water problems with China and Cambodia, the moving away of the young people, the illiteracy of much of the older generation, so although I did not find any of the products for sale (or the experience of a tour based around places to buy things) very appealing I was able to put it in context as an economically deprived area trying to develop its tourism industry. I found I did come away with a sense of what life is like today in this Mekong Delta area. The highlight of the afternoon was the little 20 minute row down a canal with coconut palm canopy in a traditional rowboat. At 3.15pm when lunch finished with the five activities on unicorn island still ahead of us I wasn’t sure how we were going to fit everything in and still be on the road back to Saigon shortly after 5pm, but everything unfolded in such a way that the tour delivered what it promised without feeling rushed at any point. Great management of time and logistical organization by the lotus travel people and much value added by the sense Vinh gave us of life during the war years ( and afterwards) and in the Mekong Delta region (of which he is a native). I very much appreciated Vinh’s approach to the history which was free of propagandistic overtones. I would recommend this tour to anyone who has a day free in Saigon and especially in conjunction with a visit to the Independence Palace and War remnants museum.

Excellent Trip and Tour guide - We had great experience with Jack to Cu Chi Tunnel and Mekong Delta. His service was excellent. He is very humorous. We could communicate with him in English easily. He took pictures for all the members of the tour. He is very knowledgeable and experienced despite he is quite young. We had a blast during the tour. Good job Jack 👍🏻👍🏻 Will get his service again when we return to Vietnam in the future. Keep up your good work 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Cu Chi Tunnels and Mekong Delta 1 Day Trip - Morning: Cu Chi trip. We examined Vietnam war and it was brutal. Besides, the Vietnamese people have a very strong will and are extremely intelligent to build such a complex tunnel system during the war. Afternoon: At noon we started departing for the Mekong Delta. While on the boat, we drank coconut water, then went to a local restaurant to eat lunch. The boating experience is quite interesting. We went to a bee farm, then went to a coconut candy factory. Then we were served fruit and a band performed traditional Vietnamese music. The trip was quite enjoyable, the company chose the right driver and car for our family, it was very comfortable. The tour guide is also very enthusiastic and knowledgeable. The company translates very well. We recommend!
