Roman Ruins in Cartagena—Don’t Miss Them - This tour was the highlight of our brief cruise ship stopover in Cartagena. Before touring the Roman ruins, our guide, Juan, gave us a concise overview of Cartagena’s history that set the stage for what we were about to see. The ruins are as interesting as any we’ve seen elsewhere. Our guide conducted the tour at a good pace-neither too fast, nor too slow. He was easy to understand. And he patiently answered our questions and gave us enough time to take all the pictures we wanted. This was a good tour and worth the money.

Cartagena: a valuable jewel between Valencia and Granada. - A little forgotten on the Mediterranean coast of Murcia, and aged by the saline winds, Cartagena is a "must" that we cannot fail to visit in depth when we walk through the area. Perched on a rock cliff with wonderful views towards the sea, Cartagena is a town that is home to the most surprising scenes of antiquity: A Roman forum in the process of being rescued and one of the best preserved Roman theaters I have ever seen. The entrance to the theater through the Plaza del Ayuntamiento is a small, exceptionally designed Museum from which you go up to the interior of the Theater and then to the ruins of the small Cathedral of Santa María la Mayor. Without a doubt, a visit to the medieval wall and the Museum of Underwater Archeology are highly recommended. And to have some fun, we can go down and take a dip at Playa Cala Cortina, which is a small cove that is slightly southeast of the Port. While there, we cannot miss eating at the "Rías Bravas" restaurant (reservation required), where the rice dishes are spectacular, especially the "Arroz con Bogavante".

The spending - Spenden, unfortunately, had too little time. So have to come back and see more another time. But exciting to see this in the middle of the city

Must do - Roman theatre was awesome. Amazing to learn that it was only discovered a short while ago! Imagine what else is buried under the city!

Cartagena Roman Antiquities Tour Dissappoints - Our guide, Carmelo, was not qualified to lead this tour about Roman antiquities in Cartagena. He would stop at many buildings and structures unrelated to the cities Roman era and expound on them at length. The two important Roman excavation sites are the theatre and baths. He only thought his job was to let us look at them from the outside; erroneously contending over objections that inside entry was not included in our tour. We weren’t scheduled for a restroom stop until the presentation on Roman food and drink 2 hours into the tour. He attempted an unscheduled restroom stop at a small museum at a small Roman excavation site but a loud kerfuffle ensued with the guard when we headed to the restroom. We were forbidden to use the restrooms. When we finally made it to Maria’s Roman food and drink we had a very interesting presentation on Roman dining lifestyle. We also found out that our tour was to include Roman theatre entry and were offered the opportunity to backtrack and tour the theatre museum and excavation. We never determine if entry to the Roman baths was supposed to be part of our tour. All in all one of the worst tours I’ve experienced in 50 years of foreign travel.

Knowledgeable Soft Talker Fast Walker - Our guide was knowledgeable for what we could hear. If you weren't within 5 people of him you couldn't hear. Also competing with Spanish translator which was very distracting. We signed up for an English excursion. Guide shot off like a rocket and walked way too fast not knowing if everyone was following. Guide really had no awareness of the group and it's physical capabilities. Guide needs to get better at projecting and making sure entire group can hear him...even if he needs to repeat it. Example was on the bridge type thing in the Roman Theater. He explained to the people that could fit onto the bridge and then walked off. The rest of us didn't get anything there. He also needs some type of pole with identification along with Viator stickers. There were non excursion people that were tagging along.

Poor English-speaking Guide Made the Experience Difficult - The tour sights were interesting and a valuable expeience. The wine and tapas were enjoyable. Our guise announced at the start of the tour, this was the 1st time he was giving the tour in English. Definately a minus.

Disappointed tourist. - We did not get to complete our tour in Cartagena. We went to the meeting point, and there was no one there. I even communicated with Viator the day before and no response. I have disputed this charge.

Bittersweet visit - My wife and I were very excited about visiting this Roman jewel in the city of Cartagena, which for anyone passionate about Roman history and culture, a visit is essential. We decided to do the visit with an audio guide, which I think is very important to have exact information about what you see. To say that the staff that informs and assists you are very pleasant, but the poor evaluation comes as a consequence of a school visit where, especially one of the teachers, did not explain except with a very high tone of voice, making it impossible to hear the audio guide's explanations. When I explained this situation to the reception staff, the only response was to apologize but indicate that there was nothing they could do. I believe in my opinion that school visits can be scheduled for a specific day and time so as not to disturb other users. Incidentally, I have two daughters.
