Highlights
  • Islamic Cairo - A knowledgeable Cairo tour guide will escort you from your accommodation in Cairo or Giza to explore the Salah El Din Citadel, erected by Salah El Din in 1183 AD as a defensive measure against Crusader threats. Subsequently, you’ll visit the Mohamed Ali Alabaster Mosque, an architectural masterpiece crafted by Yousif Boushnaq, an Ottoman architect who journeyed from Istanbul to construct this magnificent mosque for Mohamed Ali, the sovereign of Egypt from 1805 to 1849, who reigned for over 45 years. This mosque shares similarities with the smaller Blue Mosque of Sultan Ahmed.
  • Khan Al-Khalili - Presently, Khan el-Khalili is a renowned marketplace and souq located in the historical heart of Cairo, Egypt. This shopping district is a prime attraction for both international visitors and local Egyptians. It also serves as a hub for numerous Egyptian artisans and craftsmen, as well as workshops producing traditional handicrafts and mementos. Afterward, you will be returned to your hotel.

The best of Cairo (apart from pyramids)! - The Castle of Saladin was most impressive and provided an amazing view of Cairo. The Muhammad Ali mosque was equally stunning. Throughout the tour our guide, Khaled, showed his skill as a photographer as well as being a most qualified Egyptologist. He knows the best locations and angles for photos. We went on to the “Hanging Church” in the Coptic sector and saw how skilled the builders were in the 3rd or 4th century. The tour ended with a visit to the Khan el-Khalili market which is much like other middle eastern markets, but still a must-visit. Lunch was a couple of the best felafel rolls I have tasted in a long time. I can highly recommend this tour and Khaled the Great as guide!

Bisho was great! Excellent tour! - Bisho was brilliant! He clearly had great knowledge of the city and was able to answer our questions. He was also able to translate for us if we were approached by people in the market. I definitely recommend having a tour guide as Bisho was able to share lots of information about the Citadel which we wouldn't have learnt otherwise (no information signs available). Bisho allowed us to complete tour at our own pace. The driver was brilliant and this is definitely the way to experience Cairo! Bisho had confirmed pick up with us via whatsapp a few hours before and took some photos which he then sent through to us afterwards, both of these were nice touchs

The visits to papyrus and... - The visits to papyrus and cotton shops were not in the original schedule and were not requested. To visit these stores - just to waist time.

Beware of last-minute surcharges - Tour operator tried to charge us an extra 30 dollars after the cancellation period, saying our hotel was out of the pickup zone, even though we had told them where our pickup would be weeks ago. Plus there was no mention of a surcharge listed on the website. Called Viator since this was clearly a scam to get more money, but the rep couldn't and wouldn't do anything since we were past the cancelation window. They advised us to go to a downtown hotel for pickup:| Since we didn't want to miss out on the tour and lose 90 bucks, we paid $4 for an Uber each way. I will say our tour driver and guide Bisho were great. He was informative and helped negotiate good prices at the bazaar. Even though I knew he was taking a cut at times, I didn't mind because he was very patient and got us what we wanted:)
