  • Checkpoint Charlie - The most famous of all the Check Points it was the scene of many failed and successful escapes and also an incredible face-off between the American and Soviet forces in the Autumn of 1961.
  • Topography of Terror - The section on Niederkirchnerstrasse is the only surviving fragment of the wall in this part of Berlin. It is right next to the former-Luftwaffe Headquarters which was used during the East German Period as the House of Ministries. It is also the site of one of the more incredible escapes into West Berlin.
  • GDR Watch Tower - Visit and possibly ascend the last of the “BT - variant” watchtowers that used to surround West Berlin. A rare survival saved thanks to a private initiative.

The tour covered so much with elements of humour and also some parts very moving with the individual stories of East Berliners who lost their lives. Would recommend to anybody visiting Berlin, you get so much more than just walking around on your own.

Amazing tour, very good tour guide, highly highly recommend for those with keen interest in history - I embarked on this tour on 26/01/24, and luck was truly on my side. Not only was Berlin blissfully tranquil for a history tour during this time of year, but a stroke of fortune led to the cancellation of fellow attendees due to rail strikes. As a result, I found myself on a personalized, one-on-one historical exploration of Berlin with the incredibly knowledgeable Paul. Paul, the tour guide with a master's degree in European history, made this experience exceptional. His expertise delved into the intricacies of Berlin's history, offering captivating insights with a level of detail that left me utterly fascinated. Beyond his academic prowess, Paul's amiable and approachable demeanor added a delightful touch to the tour, creating an engaging atmosphere throughout. What stood out was Paul's flexibility. He graciously accommodated breaks for coffee, fostering a relaxed environment. He eagerly welcomed questions, drawing connections between key historical points in Berlin and broader historical events. His ability to illustrate the significance and relationships between various historical occurrences added depth to the experience. Paul's commitment to delivering a comprehensive tour was evident in his meticulous research. Armed with a book of rare photographs, he skillfully wove visual elements into the narrative, providing a unique perspective on Berlin's history. From essential historical sites to hidden gems, the tour covered it all, culminating in a visit to the preserved section of the wall—a truly captivating experience. For anyone keen on unraveling Berlin's unique history, this tour is a must. Paul's expertise and passion for the subject turned what could have been a simple tour into a weekend highlight for me. So much so, that I am seriously contemplating a revisit on my next trip to Berlin, eager to delve even deeper into the historical tapestry that Paul expertly unfolds.

Fantastic tour guide, cheers Paul! - My boyfriend and I turned out to be the only people on the tour due to train strike related cancellations so we ended up having a private tour with our guide, Paul and it was beyond what we could have expected! Paul is so knowledgeable and delivers the content in a digestible and engaging way. He explained the history of the Berlin Wall in a way that I likely wouldn’t have gathered by taking myself through museums which provided context for all of the sites he took us to. Could not recommend this tour enough and hopefully you’re lucky enough to get Paul as your guide!
