Highlights
  • Eternal Greece - Brief visit to the Corinth Canal, which links the Gulf of Corinth on the western side to the Saronic Gulf in the Aegean Sea on the eastern side. It slices through the slim Isthmus of Corinth and detaches the Peloponnese from the mainland of Greece, effectively turning the peninsula into an island. The canal was excavated at sea level across the Isthmus without the use of locks. It spans 6.4 kilometres (4 mi) and has a minimum width of 21.4 metres (70 ft) at its base, which is too narrow for the majority of contemporary vessels. Its current economic significance is minimal.

Additional Information

This unique and captivating half-day journey incorporates the archaeological exhibits found in three contemporary Athens Metro stations, paired with an enlightening tour to the outdoor archaeological sites of Kerameikos and Agora.

Every year, Athens and its notable monuments draw in millions of tourists. However, only a few of them know of the treasures buried beneath the city. Some of these relics are showcased in several Athens Metro stations, as the construction of the subway system was interwoven with meticulous archaeological digs. A majority of these discoveries are on display in six Athens Metro stations, giving these places a dual purpose of being bustling, modern structures teeming with technology, in addition to acting as museums and geo-historical cross-sections reflecting their specific localities.

The program is conducted by a certified archaeologist-guide, with a duration of roughly four and a half hours, and is available throughout the year.
