Safe and secure in Mole National Park - My daughter (14) and I booked the four-day cycle and walking tour in Mole National Park. The whole tour was booked and arranged completely by email, which presented few challenges. With Larmi at M&J Travel & Tours could not have been more helpful and patient in answering all my questions. The only glitch in booking was that Visa (not my bank) initially blocked my credit card payment, presumably because I was paying a large amount of money to business in Ghana. I would really like to see M&J Travel and Tours develop an online portal for making credit card payments. The current arrangements are not acceptable. We were collected from our accommodation in Accra, delivered to the airport and met by our driver (George) and our guide (Baffoe) when we stepped off the plane in Tamale. George and Baffoe were very friendly and looked after us over the next four days and three nights. We booked the “cycling” tour, which in hindsight was not the best. Unless you absolutely love cycling, it is a challenge to cycle in the heat of the day on the roads/tracks in Mole National Park. We cycled on two of the four days and dropped the cycling on the third and fourth days. In part, because it added nothing to the tour and the heat of the day would have made the activity no fun at all. On the second day, for example, we went on a safari cycle through Mole National Park. We undertook this at 3 pm in the afternoon, which was pretty pointless as no sensible animal was going to be out and about during the heat of the day. We saw no animals, though the cycle through the park was relatively straight-forward, if not rather hot. Our tour was very well organised and everything went to plan, We travelled in a small air-conditioned van, which had seat belts, and stayed the three nights at the Mole Hotel (see separate review) in the Mole National Park. Air-conditioning and seatbelts are important, as the roads deteriorate badly the further north you travel, especially when you visit the hippos at Wa. George was a very safe driver and Baffoe was always alert to our needs, especially ensuring we had enough water (included in the price of the tour). On the final day as we travelled back to Tamale we arranged with Baffoe and George to visit the Larabanga Mosque (the oldest in West Africa) in the village of Larabanga. This is a must see and I am surprised it is not included as part of the tour. Overall, I would have no hesitation in booking again with M&J Travel & Tours. I found the tour I booked via the TripAdvisor website, but contacted M&J Travel and Tours direct and saved a few hundred US dollars in the process. I asked lots of questions before booking and all of them were answered directly and promptly. If you are travelling to Ghana, M&J Travel & Tours are a good option.
